Skull Bar at the mouth of Galice Creek. On October 17th, 1855 volunteers fought a losing battle with the
Takelma at this spot. This is the original location of Galiceburg, sometimes known as "Lower Town".

Here we are above Galice on a mining trip, overlooking the creek which is is about 50 feet down this steep enbankment.
It's one hell of a ride down.

There is still some color to be found in the Galice Mining District. The old timers didn't get it all.

The Yank Lead, where it crosses Galice Road. This famous mineral vein was responsible for giving up almost
incalculable wealth and originates high above Galice Creek, runs across the ridgeline and eventually crossed the Rogue River channel to the site of the famous Almeda Mine on the opposite side. The strange coloration is due to heavy mineralization.

This beautiful waterfall is on Argo Creek, slightly downstream of Galice, Oregon.
